Information
The pineapple, Ananas Comosus, is a tropical fruit formed from a fusion of individual flowers of the unpollinated plant. Indigenous to South America, where it has been cultivated for centuries, it is now produced worldwide, growing best in areas with tropical climates.
Pineapple is the third most important tropical fruit produced in mainland China after banana and mango, with 1.7 million metric tonnes of pineapple produced in China in 2019. Most are sold as fresh fruit for the domestic market, though the processing applications for this delicious fruit are extensive.
Pineapples are packed with vitamins and minerals, being an especially rich source of Vitamin C, manganese, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
