Information

The blackberry is a bramble fruit of the rose family (Rosaceae), though it is distinct from its raspberry relatives in that the torus stays with the fruit when it is picked, rather than remaining on the plant and leaving a hollow core in the fruit. As with the raspberry, the blackberry is an aggregate fruit, made up of 20-50 single seeds, called drupelets. Many hundreds of species of blackberry are cultivated through Europe, Central and Western Asia, North and South America and Northwestern Africa.

Blackberries are full of important nutrients including potassium, magnesium and calcium, as well as vitamins A, C, E and most of our B vitamins. They are also a rich source of anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that give blackberries their colour.
